I’m the woman behind this, whatever this is. A Bay Area girl turned New Orleans transplant, turned Portland mama on a mission. My story is rooted in love, change, heartbreak, growth, and resilience. I started this blog to share my journey—not just as a single mother raising a toddler boy—but as a woman building a new life from scratch while chasing big dreams and trying to maintain self and sanity. You can just call me JT. A late 30 something who has only just recently started making sense of my wants and needs and how to achieve them.
My path hasn’t been linear. I fell in love with a city—and a man—in New Orleans. That’s where I became a mom. And then I left after a hurricane destroyed my home and my will to maintain my marriage. I moved to Portland for a fresh start after a year and a half post hurricane displacement with my new born son—for my career, my education, and ultimately, for mental health. It hasn’t been easy. I landed here with a minimal support system, no close friends, and a million unanswered questions. But what I’ve learned is this: relentlessness isn’t about perfection. It’s about persistence.
Here, I write about MY experiences in:
- Motherhood in all its raw, exhausting, beautiful glory
- Rebuilding when everything feels like it’s falling apart
- Finances, hustle, and starting over with limited resources
- Being a student and career woman while parenting solo
- Adapting to new cities, new roles, and new versions of myself
- I might even talk about dating- cause why not? lol
This blog is for the moms who feel like they’re starting over. For the women/people who are tired but keep going anyway. For the ones who are learning how to mother themselves while mothering their children. This is for us.
Thanks for being here. I hope this space reminds you that you’re not alone—and that you are more powerful than you realize. Most importantly, when you’re reading this…I hope you say out loud “Ain’t that the fucking truth.”
xx. JT
I know you have something to say, shoot it to me straight…
